Fetpak in Commack and Other Odd and Unique Names
In our last Blog we mentioned that we shipped to the North Pole, we thought you would be interested in hearing some other places Fetpak has customers in:
Truth or Consequences, New Mexico Yes it was named after the game show, a radio show at that time in 1950.
Paris: Texas, Ontario and France ..There are more but we havent shipped to those yet.
Boggy Creek, Manitoba ..Just seems like there would be a lot of mosquitoes there.
Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan ..We found the origin .Either its from moose gaw meaning warm breezes. Or its from the map of the city as the Moose Jaw River is shaped like a mooses jaw.
Horsefly, British Columbia ..That is not a name that attracts a high degree of tourism, but after researching it, oddly enough it is a tourist destination. Surprise surprise! And yes the name is from the masses of horseflies that attack you there. So dont forget to pack your horsefly spray or wear a full body net.
Destruction Bay, Yukon ..You have to wonder what was destroyed? The Bay?
We found out .Population is 59. The name is from the wind blowing down structures erected by the military during highway construction in 1942-43.
70 Mile House and 100 Mile House in British Columbia .Just though these were interesting names for cities. History says stagecoaches stopped there, 70 Mile House was first stopping point.
Tipperary, Ireland Its definitely a long way.
And finally. Where Fetpak is, Commack, NY. Not such an odd name, but what does it mean? Does anyone care? Okay, someone does, the Secatogue Native Americans named their northern lands in the center of the Long Island Winnecomac, meaning pleasant lands. The land was fertile, with thick oak forests and an abundance of game. Pronunciation has changed and its now pronounced as Co-Mack. Its what happens when a large amount of people from Brooklyn move here. ?
Canada definitely gets the award for cities with odd and unique names. So congratulations to Canada for giving us Blog writing material.
